DJ Lyster
#78
Jersey Retired -
On Friday,
August 22, 2008, Hueytown High School retired DJ's #78 football
jersey. DJ passed away on November
10, 2007 from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was a proud member of the Hueytown
football team. He was respected and loved by his
coaches, teammates, friends and the entire Hueytown
community.
Playing football for the Gophers for four years, he was a
3-year letterman and 2-year starter. DJ was a member
of the 2006 play-off team that finished the season 9-3 and
was the strongest player on the team. DJ graduated
from Hueytown High School in May, 2007, just six months prior to
his tragic
accident.
The HHS weight room has been named "The DJ Lyster
Weight Room" in his memory. His parents, David and Angie Lyster and younger
brother, Drennen, were presented with DJ's framed jersey by
Head Coach Jeff Smith on the field during the recent
jamboree game. The jersey #78 was retired on August 22, 2008 and will never be worn again by a
member of the Golden Gopher football team. Another
framed jersey will hang at the entrance of the field house in
memory of this spectacular young man.
Tailgating for Home Games -
Tailgating is allowed and encouraged around the
outside perimeter of the front parking grass area
(next to the community school playground) at all
home games. There will be a charge of $5 per game
to rent space for tailgating (size is equivalent to
a parking space). Please see Bryan Rotenberry or
Randy Ray (491-3151) to reserve your space ahead of
time, otherwise you will need to get there early!
Parking lot will open at 4:30pm and will be blocked
off prior to that time.

~ DJ
Lyster ~
November
17, 1988 - November 10, 2007
Our
thoughts and prayers go out to the family of DJ Lyster, he
will be greatly missed.
It
is with a very sad heart that we announce we have lost one
of our Class of 2007 Seniors from last year's football team,
#78 - DJ Lyster. He passed away early Saturday morning,
November 10, 2007, from injuries sustained in a car
accident.
DJ played on
the offensive line at the weak side tackle position and was
instrumental in the success of last year's football team. He
was a fierce competitor on the field, whether in practice or
during a game he always gave 110%. DJ had a wonderful sense
of humor and could always be counted on for a laugh when his
friends or team members needed one most...Sometimes it was
not so much what he said, but rather something he did, that
would have them all cracking up.
For those of
you who have special memories of DJ or just wish to express
your condolences, please take the time to write them down
and share them with his parents and family so that they
might have those kind thoughts and fond memories to help
comfort & sustain them as they mourn the loss of their
precious son. He was a GREAT young man and we are grateful
for the blessing of having had him in our lives; he truly
touched many. We love you, DJ, and miss you already.
