2020 Coaching Staff






Greg Patterson

 

Head Coach/Athletic Director

 

Coach Patterson is in his 22nd year of coaching, his fifth year at Hueytown, and his second year as head coach. He spent two years at Walker HS as defensive line coach, one year at Minor High School as the offensive line coach. From 1998 to 2012, Coach Patterson held several positions on the coaching staff at Sumiton Christian High School which included head football coach and AD for four years. He took the Sumiton Christian Eagles to a playoff berth in Class 2A 2012.



 

A graduate of Hayden High School where he was a four-year offensive and defensive letterman, Coach spent 20 years in private business before completing his bachelor's degree in liberal studies/social science at Athens State University. He earned his master's degree in athletic administration from Concordia University-Irvine and became certified in physical education.

 

Coach Patterson and his wife Belinda have four children. When Coach Patterson has time away from football, he enjoys spending it with his wife and three granddaughters, as well as fishing on the lake.

 

 

 

Trent Campbell

 

Defensive Coordinator

 

Coach Campbell is in his ninth year coaching defense at Hueytown, and his third year as the defensive coordinator. Before coming to Hueytown, he spent two years coaching defensive backs at Minor High School and prior to that, he spent three years on the defensive staff at UAB.

 

Coach Campbell and his wife, Valerie, are the proud parents of Ivey (6) and Knox (3) and baby Eleanor.

 

 

 

Josh Franklin

 

Quarterback Coach/Offensive Coordinator

 

Coach Franklin is going on his 5th season with the Gophers, and his second season as quarterback coach/offensive coordinator. In his tenure at Hueytown, he has coached receivers and quarterbacks, as well as, co-coordinated the strength and conditioning program. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 2008, where he was a three-sport athlete. Franklin later attended Shelton State and the University of Alabama graduating with a Bachelor's in Secondary Education: Social Studies. He later received his Master's in Athletic Administration from Concordia University of Irvine.

 

Franklin began his coaching career at Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama working with defensive backs and wide receivers. In 2013, he was hired at Minor to coach varsity running backs. 2020 will be Coach Franklin's 8th year in education.

 

Coach Franklin and his wife, Erica, have two sons, Jax (3), and Judah (2).

 

 

 

Godwin Scott

 

Director of Football Operations

 

Godwin Scott is a new addition to this year's Hueytown High School Football program. He will be serving as our new Director of Football Operations. Godwin will work closely with Head Coach Greg Patterson, overseeing all aspects of the program's day-to-day support operations while serving as a liason to the football team and the high school. Godwin will help build, develop and implement the program's annual budget while overseeing athletic support, team travel, personnel, scheduling and facilities upgrades.

 

A native of Montgomery, Godwin graduated from Troy University with a bachelor's degree in history, Auburn University with a master's degree in school counseling psychology and from Lincoln Memorial University with an education specialist degree in instructional leadership. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Alabama.

 

This is Godwin's fourth year at Hueytown High School. Outside of work, he enjoys playing golf, music and Auburn football.

 

 

 

Justin Bartley

 

Defense

 

Coach Bartley is entering his sixth year of coaching and his third year at Hueytown High School. Prior to coming to Hueytown, he worked at Bessemer Academy where he assisted with the defensive backs and served as the Head JV Baseball Coach.

 

A graduate of Oak Grove High School, Coach Bartley earned a Bachelor's degree from Miles College where he played baseball for four years. He is currently enrolled at the University of West Alabama to earn his master's degree in education.

 

Coach Bartley and his wife, Jordan, have been married for almost four years. They have a newborn son named Bryce.

 

 

 

Tommy Chandler

 

Linebackers

 

Coach Chandler is in his second year with the Hueytown coaching staff. He served as Director of Recruiting, Video and Quality Control in 2017 at West Carolina University. An Alabama native, he served two stints at UAB as video coordinator. In 2009, he began working with Coach Greg Patterson as his assistant at Sumiton Christian. In 2011, he served at Cleveland High School, and in 2012, at Cordova High School. In 2014, Chandler made his first stop at UAB as a graduate assistant coach, working primarily with linebackers. He then took a defensive line assistant coaching position at Independence Community College in Kansas in 2015. He played collegiately at Auburn as a walk-on wide receiver before working as a student assistant with tight ends and defensive backs.

 

A 2009 graduate of Auburn, Chandler is engaged to Jessica Moore of Jasper, AL; his daughter, Emma, is a student at Auburn University.

 

 

 

 

Ethan Carroll

 

Receivers

 

Coach Carroll is in his third year of coaching at Hueytown High School. He came from Goshen High School where he served as head boys basketball coach and offensive coordinator for 3 seasons. A graduate of Troy University, Coach Carroll started his coaching career under Mike Dubose at Luverne High School. This is his eighth year of coaching.

 

 

Coach Carroll is married to Jayne Carroll.

 

 

 

La'Derrick Trone

 

Running Backs

 

Coach "T" is entering his second year of coaching at Hueytown High School as the Running Backs Coach. Coach T has previously coached at Hueytown Middle School where he served as wide receiver coach and held offensive play calling responsibilities for the past three years. Born and raised in Tuscaloosa, AL, Coach T graduated from Central High School. After graduation, Coach T attended Alabama State University where he earned a BS in Physical Education.

 

 

Coach T is married to Zia, and they have two young boys: Gabriel (2) and Greyson (1).

 

 

 

Scott Glenn

 

Offensive Line

 

Scott Glenn is a 1995 graduate of Enterprise High School where he played football under Coach Bill Bacon. After high school, he attended the University of North Alabama where he played football for Coach Bobby Wallace and Coach Bill Hyde from 1997 - 2000. Coach Glenn earned his bachelor's degree there and spent 12 years teaching Physical Education. He also served as the head football coach of Headland High School. This is Coach Glenn's fourth year at Hueytown High School where he teaches physical education and coaches the offensive line.

 

 

Coach Glenn has been married to his wife, Susan, for 13 years. They have two children: Kolby (9) and Kensley (3).

 

 

 

David Lundberg

 

Defense

 

Coach Lundberg is a 2010 graduate of Winfield City High School. After graduation, he attended the University of North Alabama where he was a four-year letter winner and a two-year starter on the football team. After earning a degree in Secondary Education/Mathematics, Lundberg went on to be a graduate assistant coach for two seasons at UNA and earned his master's degree in Sports Management. He is in his sixth year of coaching, with prior stops at Lakeland High School (FL), and Bishop Gorman High School (Las Vegas, NV). He is in his second year at Hueytown and is married to Jessica. He will coordinate special teams while also assisting with the offensive line, tight ends, and H-backs. He will also teach math at the high school.

 

 

 

 

Zachary Williams

 

Secondary

 

A native of Lena, MS, and a graduate of Leake County High School, Coach Williams lettered in both basketball and football. After graduation, he played at Copiah-Lincoln Community College for two seasons, earning a number of Div. 1 offers before signing a National Letter of Intent with UAB, being part of Head Coach Bill Clark's first recruiting class after the shutdown of the programs in 2014. While playing defensive line at UAB the past 2 seasons, Coach Williams was blessed to be a part of the programs first Conference USA Championship and first-ever bowl win. Off the field, Coach earned a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and began his Master's program in Exercise Physiology. He is now entering his second season of coaching after a short stint at UAB as a graduate assistant.

 

 

 

 

Brandon Northcutt

 

Athletic Director

 

Brandon Northcutt is starting his second year as HHS Athletic Director. He is no stranger to our football program as he is a 1994 graduate of Hueytown and was a four-year letterman. During his senior year, he earned the Butch Wilson Award, the Scrambler Award for the Best Offensive Lineman, the WSMQ Player of the Game (HHS vs. Jess Lanier HS) and Team Captain.

 

Coach Northcutt is a 1998 graduate of the University of Alabama in Birmingham with a bachelor's degree in secondary education/mathematics. He also earned his master's degree in mathematics in 2003. He has been coaching for 26 years and serves as the Math Department Chair and Bus Coordinator for the Hueytown area schools. This is the start of Coach Northcutt's 17th season at Hueytown.

 

He and his wife Dawn have been married for 21 years and have two children, Lexie, a student at the University of Alabama, and Braden goes to HHS and is on the football team.

 

 

 

Brandon Maye

 

JV Offensive Line

 

Coach Maye is coming into his seventh season of coaching and his second season as an assistant offensive line coach at Hueytown.

 

A 2010 graduate of Bessemer City High School, Coach Maye began his coaching career at Bessemer City Middle School where he served as offensive line coach/offensive coordinator from 2014-2018. He then took a position as assistant offensive line coach at Bessemer City High School for one season.

 

Coach Maye has been married to his wife, Eboney, for almost five years.

 

 

 

Corey Wells

 

Secondary

 

Coach Wells is in his fifth year of coaching at Hueytown High School, coaching the secondary. Coach Wells is originally from Meridian, Mississippi, where he was a two-sport athlete for the Wildcats, lettering in basketball. After high school, Coach Wells attended Meridian Community College where he received his A.S. in Computer Networking. He also attended the University of Alabama in Birmimgham where he earned his B.S in Physical Education.

 

 

Coach Wells is married to Melessia Wells and they have 3 daughters, Lailah, Zariah and Mariyah.
